The City of Homer has 29 dedicated parks, with amenities ranging from undeveloped to playgrounds, ball fields, and picnic areas. There are 25 trails that cover almost 11 miles, and compliment our beautiful beaches which stretch 15.5 miles around town. We have multiple pavilions available to reserve for special events, or you can enjoy them for free whenever they are not reserved. We host six ball fields that cater to various needs of Little League and Softball user groups. Total park acreage is over 520 acres.
For questions about park facilities, contact the Parks Division of Public Works at 907-235-3170.
To reserve a park pavilion, please submit the form on the Pavilion Reservation webpage. Pavilions and/or gazebos are available to reserve at Karen Hornaday Park, Bishop’s Beach, WKFL Park, Mariner Park, and the Kachekmak Bay Water Trail Pavilion.

Sandhill Crane “fuzzball” season begins when the first eggs hatch, starting late May and into June, as the later nesting pairs’ eggs hatch. The new colts are at their cutest for their first two weeks. Colts grow rapidly, so check in frequently. Within 60 to 70 days, they will be as tall as their parents and flying. Please keep your dogs on leash and cats inside during this early and vulnerable time for crane colts and other baby wildlife.
Kachemak Crane Watch wants information about your nesting pair and their newly hatched colts. This important data helps us count the total number of colts in the area and track nesting success. We cannot do this without your observations.
Email reports to Kachemak Crane Watch at reports@cranewatch.org or call 907-235-6262. Include date of hatching, time, location, number of colts, mortalities, and your contact information so we can call for details. For more information contact: Nina Faust at 907-235-6262.

Your Input Matters!
On May 21, the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released the Draft Feasibility Report for the Homer Harbor Expansion Study, opening a 30-day public comment period.
The report summarizes the engineering, environmental, and economic analysis of four design options to address chronic overcrowding and navigational safety challenges in Homer Harbor. The report recommends a path forward. Both the USACE and the City of Homer concur on the recommendation. Alternative 2 provides moorage for large vessels currently rafted three to five vessels deep and for the number of smaller vessels currently on the moorage waitlist. It is worth noting: the study concludes with a recommendation, not a construction commitment.
https://homerharborexpansion.com/alternatives/ provides information on where to access the report online and how to submit comments. Hard copies will be available for review at the Homer Public Library and the Clerk’s Office at Homer City Hall.
Public comment is open through June 22, 2026. All comments are welcome!
Go to https://homerharborexpansion.com/alternatives/ to access the Feasibility Report and to make public comment.
