In 2022 and 2023, Homer youth and the agencies serving them acknowledged the lack of centralized and updated information about activities and programs for youth. While many programs provided their own calendars and flyers, there was no one place Homer youth could go to see what was available for them at any given time.
This project was inspired by that gap in communication to youth about opportunities in their community. Since the agencies supporting this project value youth empowerment and the importance of youth ownership of the work, every step of the project has been youth created and youth directed.
This project is supported by funding from the Southern Kenai Peninsula Resilience Coalition and the Kenai Peninsula Youth Court. Both programs believe in the importance of connecting youth to safe and welcoming activities, programs and adults, as a prevention strategy and to help youth in trouble connect with pro-social opportunities. As such, the Resilience Coalition and the Youth Court are committed to funding the paid positions of the Youth Connectors for this and the next 2 fiscal years.
Yes, corrections and updates can be posted by the Youth Connectors at any time upon timely notification from the agency. Please note, only the team members of Where Can I Homer are able to post to the website, so it is important that you establish an effective mode of communication with your representative on the team, to ensure timely updating.
